On Friday, July 10 th Turtle Green Refillery made its first appearance at a farmer’s market! A big thank you to the ADJ-TOS Farmer’s Market for hosting us. This market is a pilot project for the Adjala-Tosorontio township with the aim of bringing its many small towns and villages together. The market is located at 30 the Sideroad and highway 50, at the municipal building upper parking lot, and runs every other Friday afternoon from 3pm to 7pm.
We were a bit nervous for our first market. A refillery is still a new concept for many and can be confusing for some people. How would people react? Would they politely nod and keep walking or would they be interested in learning more? It turns out most people were curious and receptive. A common first question was, “So what’s in all these jars?” Almost everyone we spoke with agreed that our plastic consumption HAS to change. People seem ready to take some short of action. They are tired of waiting for big industry and big government to make sweeping changes to fix the problem. Many of these conversations led to sales (dish soap and hand soap were really popular) so all in all it was a great first exposure to the market scene for Turtle Green!
At about 5:30 the winds came up with a force that threatened to send our canopy tent flying. Luckily a kind gentleman from the next stall grabbed one of the legs and helped to dismantle it before it got away from us. Next time it will be properly weighted on all four corners – not just two! Lesson learned…
The next market will happen on Friday, July 24th from 3 to 7 pm. There is some great local produce and some yummy fudge and treats, and of course Turtle Green Refillery will be there if you would like to stock up on refillable products for your home. We are hoping to be at other markets soon so stay tuned. In the meantime, it’s easy to order Turtle Green products online and enjoy delivery. Remember, if you find you’re outside the delivery area please contact us and we can try to arrange a way to get our products to you!
